If you’re just returning after a hiatus from World of Warcraft, leveling another character (or two), or preparing to get ready for the Dragonflight expansion then this is the perfect time to jump into the game. Beginning the week of October 4 with each region’s local weekly reset, all World of Warcraft* players level 10-59 will gain the experience buff called “Winds of Wisdom,” which will increase experience gains by 50%!

Don’t delay. The winds will shift once more when the new dracthyr Evoker becomes playable during the Dragonflight pre-expansion patch, and the experience buff will no longer be available.

* Experience boost not available in World of Warcraft Classic titles.

Notes and trivia

Winds of Wisdom was an experience boost buff that was applied to all player characters at level 119 or below from 20 March 2020 through to the release of the Shadowlands pre-patch, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The [Impressive Influence] buff eventually followed.

The buff returned with 50% (down from 100%) on 20 July 2022, lasting through August 1st in preparation for Shadowlands Season 4. And once again on 4 October 2022, lasting until Dragonflight’s pre-expansion patch.

  • The buff stacks with heirlooms and applies to all Battle for Azeroth, Legion, and Starter Edition accounts.
  • The buff was originally planned to last between March 20 and 20 April 2020. On April 17, Blizzard announced that they would extend the buff’s duration until the release of the Shadowlands pre-patch due to its popularity.
  • “Winds of Wisdom” has the same initials as “World of Warcraft”.
