wow Lockpicking Guide

This wow Lockpicking guide will show you the fastest way how to get your Lockpicking skill up from 1 to 400.

The basic formula for your maximum lockpicking skill at a particular level is (5 * level).

Here is a list of Junkboxes you can get with Pick Pocket. You can train your lockpicking skill with these too, however in this Lockpicking guide, I will use only Footlockers and Doors.

  • 1 - 100

    These chests below respawn realy quickly. Skill up from 1 to 100 will be realy easy.

    Horde:

    • [Buccaneer's Strongbox] - These chests located on a ship near Rachet in The Barrens.
    • [Burial Chest] - Blood Elves can try this one

    Alliance:

    • [Practice Lockboxes] - Redridge Mountains

  • 100 - 170

    The Rogue poisons quests for Horde and Alliance are the best and easiest way to level up to 170. If you've already finished the quest, you can still use the chests to gain skill, but the chests don't highlight when you mouse over them, so you have to search for your lockpicking skill first in your Spellbook and then click the chest.

    Horde:

    • [Gallywix's Lockbox] - The Barrens

    Alliance:

    • [Duskwood Chest] - Westfall

  • 170 - 225

    Now you have to go to Badlands - Angor Fortress. You will find two kind of footlockers there, you will need a lockpicking skill of 175 to open the [Dentened Footlocker].

    • [Battered Footlocker] - Angor Fortress - Upstairs
    • [Dented Footlocker] - Angor Fortress - Downstairs

    Don't bother trying to Pick Pocket the mobs, the boxes you will find are already grey to you.

  • 225 - 250

    Go to Searing Gorge, it's near Badlands. Now you can try to Pick Pocket mobs too, because the [Sturdy Junkbox] you will find turns grey only at 275.

    • [Dented Footlocker] - There are two kind of Footlockers with the same name, one of them turns green at 250, the other turns green at 275

  • 250 - 300

    Go to Tyr's Hand in Eastern Plaguelands. Pickpocket the mobs and find all of the [Scarlet Footlockers]. In the time it takes to take a full circle of Tyr's Hand, the starting point will be pickpocketable and have boxes respawned.

  • 300 - 325

    • [Wicker Chest] - Zangarmash

    You can also Pick Pocket the mobs here, because they drop [Strong Junkbox].

  • 325 - 375

    • [Dented Footlocker] - Nagrand

    Same as above, Pick Pocket mobs. When you reach 350, you can go to Northrend if you want, but skilling up on these is a lot faster than pickpocketing mobs at Northrend.

  • 375-400

    • Pickpocket any Humanoid mobs at Northrend to get [Reinforced Junkboxes].

The Guide - Horde and Alliance

To start out with there is a slight difference in the beginning of lockpicking for Horde and Alliance but eventually it will come on the same path so I will start them out separately.

Horde Lockpicking 1-85

Once you get the quest for lockpicking there are chests inside of a ship near Ratchet. It's the only ship in the water that's not sunken so you can't miss it. Inside the ship is what the quest refers to as a "place where they train their thieves" and that's exactly where you want to head. You can pick the locks on those chests until about 100 skill, but you may get bored after you hit 85.

Horde Lockpicking 85-170

You will get a quest for your poisons, you may not know it as your poisons quest but the objective is to pick pocket a key, kill some things , kill a boss(elite), and open his chest. You will do this northwest of Sludge Fen. You get the quest at 20 but it is highly unlikely you will be able to complete it till 24+, I'd wait until you were 26ish. The end guy is an elite who will beat you down every single time you try this quest, in order to keep picking the lock on his chest to skill up you will have to kill him every spawn. I've never been able to do this quest below level 24 with any of my rogues, so good luck to you! This chest can bring you up to 175 if your patient, I usually leave in the 150's though.

Alliance Lockpicking 1-85

Alliance also get similiar quests as compared to the Horde. The thieves training area this time is by Atler Mill northeast of Lakeshire. You can stay at these chests until about skill 100 but you can leave at 85 if you want. Keep a watch out for horde while you're in Redridge, they seem to camp the area.

Alliance Lockpicking 85-170

The Alliance poison quest happens in a tower that is northeaster part of Westfall. The actual tower is located to the east of bridge that heads to darkshire. The quest is very similiar to the Horde, there is a chest in the top that you can pick to about 175, but you first have to find a way to incapacitate or kill the elite boss to make it worth while. I wouldn't try it unless you're 24 plus and that may be hard for anyone who isn't geared up or twinked well.

Both Lockpicking 150-225

If you don't like the water, you can head to Anger Fortress in the Badlands. There are two types of Footlockers inside the fortress, Battered Footlockers and Dented Footlockers. The Battered Footlocks are located upstairs and you will be able to open them immediately at 150, however, the Dented Footlockers will require a skill of 175 to open.

If you're level 30-40 you can go to Desolace, bring 2-3 hours worth of water breathing potions, and pick your way into the mid 200s. There are waterlogged lockboxes around 37,21 (off the northwest shore). There are level 33 mobs you'll have to deal with while doing this. There are also Mossy Footlockers in the deeper areas that can get you to 225.

At 175 you can also go to Scarlet Monastery and pick all of the doors. The ones outside the instance are on a timer so you can only do those a few times every so often, but hit up all the doors on the way in, go into an instance, unlock more doors, open chests, and pickpocket more junkboxes.

Both Lockpicking 225-250

Head to Searing Gorge and jump down into the Slag Pit. Here you will find a bunch of Dented Footlockers that you can open for skills. While you are searching for these, don't forget to pick pocket the mobs in the area to get Junkboxes.

Both Lockpicking 250-300

Tyr's Hand in Eastern Plaguelands is loaded with Scarlet Footlockers. This is probably the easiest place to level from 250-300 because you can also pickpocket the mobs while you are doing this for junk boxes.

As an alternative, there are doors in Blackrock Depths that you can pick.

Both Lockpicking 300-350

From 300-350 all you need to do is go to Feralfen Village in Zangarmarsh and open the Wicker Chests spread across the ground while pickpocketing the NPCs in the area.

At 325 you can open the Dented Footlockers at the Killsorrow camp in South East Nagrand. This is a good idea if the Wicker Chest area is crowded or turns green on you.
