WoW Melidrussa Chillworn Dragonflight Boss

Melidrussa Chillworn – Melidrussa Chillworn leads the Primalist infusion efforts in the Ruby Life Pools. Her fervent belief is that she is protecting young dragon eggs from the influence of the titans and cleansing them from the stain of Order magic. She will stop at nothing to fulfill her calling and return the eggs to what she believes is their natural state.

Location: Ruby Life Pools.

Important Melidrussa Chillworn Trash Tips and Tricks

All around the area, you will see clutches of eggs on the sides of the corridors. These will spawn Infused Whelps if you or any NPC steps on them.

Infused Whelps periodically cast Cold Claws on their main aggro target, dealing a small amount of frost damage and applying Primal Chill. If this stacks to 8, the target is frozen and suffers heavy damage for 4 seconds.

There are two important NPC types to be aware of in the first segment of the dungeon, as their abilities can combo together to an unfortunate degree:

  • Flashfrost Chillweavers will occasionally channel Ice Shield on a target. This stacks up a shield that absorbs a significant amount of damage. While the shield holds, the target is uninterruptible and cannot be crowd controlled. This is dispellable, and a single dispel clears all stacks. This cast can be interrupted and the NPC will stop channelling if soft CCed or forcefully moved.
  • Flashfrost Earthshapers attempt to cast Tectonic Slam every 10 seconds. This can only be prevented by crowd controlling them (stuns, disorients, fears); if it goes through, every player in the instance takes a hefty amount of nature damage.

Keep track of where Ice Shield ends up on and be ready to dispel!

Miniboss: Defiler Draghar

Two abilities to note:

  • Steel Barrage is a channeled tankbuster hitting the tank seven times over 3 seconds; each hit that is not parried or dodged spawns a voidzone. Being in this hurts.
  • Blazing Rush picks a random player and charges at them, propelling the miniboss forward 20 yards. The direction is set when the cast begins.
Your group should be aware of their positioning before  Blazing Rush begins to be cast. Don’t do what we just did here and hatch 8 whelps with a single charge!

Melidrussa Chillworn Tips and Strategy

Abilities at a Glance

Hailbombs

Hailbombs creates zones below players from which icicles will spawn. Don’t stay in them! They deal lethal damage on impact to anybody in them, and stepping in the icicles themselves deals a phenomenal amount of frost damage and applies two stacks of Primal Chill.

Chillstorm

Every 20 seconds, Melidrussa casts Chillstorm. This creates a zone on the floor that pulls players towards it; anybody in its core takes heavy frost damage and receives a stack of Primal Chill per second. This also ejects additional Hailbombs.

When the storm fades, more Hailbombs spawn as the players are violent knocked outwards.

Infused Whelps

Every minute, Melidrussa causes one of the clutches of eggs in the corners of the room to hatch. This spawns 5 Infused Whelps – the same ones as in the first corridor.

Interrupt and stun them while you cleave them down so the tank does not get too many stacks of Primal Chill.

Immediately after this, Melidrussa casts Frost Overload, granting herself a large shield and radiating frost damage every 2 seconds for 15 seconds to all players. Each pulse applies a stack of Primal Chill.

All Roles

This is primarily a healer-centric fight. Your healer should make sure they have their dispel bound and are able to keep track of Primal Chill on players. Ideally, they should dispel the highest stack count on cooldown.

Beyond this, the fight is simple:

  • Do not get hit by avoidable damage. Don’t step in the center of Chillstorm or on icicles left over from Hailbombs
  • Control the whelps. Mass stuns and disorients are great, but single-target interrupting Cold Claws is also really helpful
  • Quickly burn through Frost Overload. This always lines up with whelps, so do not be afraid to save CDs for it.

Tank

  • Track your own stacks of Primal Chill. Be aware that you will very rapidly gain stacks every minute when the Whelps are out – this is an ideal time for cooldowns and abilities such as Anti-Magic Shell
  • Be aware that every minute, you will need to pick up five Infused Whelps coming from one of the sides of the room. Get your burst AoE ready for this.

Healer

  • Triage your group for Primal Chill proactively:
    • Dispel on cooldown
    • Prioritize targets with high stacks of Primal Chill, the tank just before Whelps are about to spawn, or people about to be frozen
  • This one is obvious, but – make sure you can see and easily dispel the stacks of Primal Chill on your User Interface

Once you are done, take the drake upstairs!
