WoW Overgrown Ancient Dragonflight Boss

Overgrown Ancient – Professors Mystakria and Ichistrasz have used just a touch too much magic in an effort to clear the botany labs. Now they have a big, leafy problem on their hands in the form of an Overgrown Ancient that threatens to undo all their hard work.

Location: Algeth’ar Academy.

Overgrown Ancient Trash Tips and Tricks

There are two types of trash packs here – lashers and skitterflies.

    • Lasher Packs
      • Hungry Lasher have a Lasher Toxin stacking poison, which can be dispelled with a poison remove.
      • Vile Lasher
        • Detonation Seeds – Spawns many green swirls underneath players that damage and disorient for 6 seconds. Don’t get hit!
      • Aggravated Skitterfly
        • Agitation – Stacking enrage increasing their melee damage. Soothe at high stacks and cc whenever possible.
        • Darting Sting – Charges at a random non-tank player, dealing massive damage. Use a defensive if you get targeted.

    Overgrown Ancient Boss Tips and Strategy

    Abilities

    • Germinate causes many swirls to spawn underneath your feet. They will damage and knockback if you get hit, and also leave an add where they spawn. These adds will do nothing initially, but become active and fight when they Burst Forth.
    • Branch Out spawns a large add that needs to be focused down and kicked
    • Burst Forth causes everyone to take a large hit of damage, make sure you’re topped! All remaining Hungry Lasher will activate and begin fighting you, applying stacks of Lasher Toxin. They follow the standard aggro table.
    • Barkbreaker tankbuster with a physical damage taken debuff.

    All Roles

    • During Germinate, stack loosely around the boss so that all the Hungry Lasher spawn clumped nearby. This allows you to AoE them before they Burst Forth and become active. Dodge swirls continuously until they stop spawning.
    • Help use AoE CCs to control the Hungry Lasher so your tank doesn’t get too many stacks of Lasher Toxin. If you have a poison dispel, use it on cooldown to help reduce damage!
    • Dodge the large brown swirl as Branch Out is casting.
    • Priority Kick!  Healing Touch on the new Ancient Branch. It will cast immediately, and every 10 seconds until it dies.
    • Hard focus down Ancient Branch and stack close to it when it dies to remove the Splinterbark with Abundance. Otherwise, your healer will have a bad time. If needed, you can use a bleed removal such as Blessing of Protection or Cauterizing Flame to remove it.

    Tanks

    • Barkbreaker is a tankbuster that occurs approximately every 20-30 seconds. Make sure a defensive or external is up for this!
    • Make sure to get aggro on the Hungry Lasher while they’re still dormant, but save your burst AoE for the bad overlap with Burst Forth. This happens every second set, about 45 seconds in between each round.

    Healers

    • Make sure to keep the group topped before Burst Forth happens, which is about every 45 seconds. Otherwise you will see many deaths.

    Defensive Strategy

    Important: The boss always casts in this sequence every 45 seconds:

    1. Germinate
    2. about 15 seconds later Branch Out
    3. about 15 seconds later Germinate
    4. immediately Burst Forth

    Use a defensive if you aren’t topped off after the second Germinate, or you will die. Ideally, you will rotate personals and healer cooldowns for each Burst Forth. Healers also need to keep in mind that everyone must be topped before the cast, as it does significant burst damage.

    • Stay stacked near the boss and drop Germinate swirls as grouped as possible.
    • Make sure you’re topped off when Overgrown Ancient reaches 100 energy for Burst Forth and use a defensive on the second wave.
    • Focus down and kick the Ancient Branch. Two melee kicks, or 3 ranged kicks are required.
    • Stack on the Ancient Branch as it dies to remove your Splinterbark stacks with Abundance.

    Achievement Description
    Duck, Duck, Spruce! Defeat the Overgrown Ancient while all party members have a Well-Fed Duckling on their head in Algeth’ar Academy on Mythic difficulty.
