WoW Vexamus Dragonflight Boss

Vexamus – As one of the most tenured professors in the academy, Maxdormu uses his powers as a bronze dragon to help bring his history lessons to life. While this proves to be quite an educational and fun experience, it can occasionally go awry. Vexamus is one of Professor Maxdormu’s favorite lessons, but if any historical detail is inaccurate he will be quick to scold any rowdy students.

Location: Algeth’ar Academy.

Vexamus Trash Tips and Tricks

From the starting area, head left first to get to Vexamus. You’ll have to cross a bridge here and clear out two pack types:

  1. Arcane Elementals and Enchanted Items
  2. Mana Wyrms

Elemental and Enchanted Packs

There are 4 types of enemies in these packs with various compositions. You can expect there to be two Corrupted Manafiend per pack, in addition to one or more of Spellbound Scepter, Spellbound Battleaxe, and Unruly Textbook. I’ve broken them down below in order of highest priority to lowest.

  • Spellbound Scepter
    • Mystic Blast – Absolute highest priority kick. Massive AoE. You will probably wipe if this goes off!
    • Arcane Rain – Dodge the swirls! Spawns multiple swirls randomly nearby.
  • Unruly Textbook
    • Monotonous Lecture – Second priority kick. Single target channeled sleep. Can also be dispelled by magic dispel (healer, Warlock imp, Priest) or removed with Shaman  Tremor Totem
  • Corrupted Manafiend
    • Mana Void – 4 second DoT. At the end, explodes in a small radius for damage and drains 10000 mana from anyone hit. Either kick the cast or spread out
    • Surge – Single target nuke. Kick cast if you have spare kicks.
  • Spellbound Battleaxe
    • These don’t particularly do anything other than Severing Slash, putting a bleed on the highest agro target. It does a good amount of upfront physical damage, so tanks should be aware if there are too many in a pull.

Mana Wyrms

  • There are two types of enemies in these pulls. The smaller enemies, Arcane Forager, are not particularly dangerous. They will charge randomly, but that’s it.
  • Arcane Ravager will always do a sequence of two abilities immediately as a combination. They’ll first charge someone, dealing AoE damage around them with Vicious Ambush, and then turn to face a random player and cast Riftbreath, blasting anyone standing in a large frontal cone with fast ticking damage. You must dodge this by sidestepping or running through it.

Dodge!

Vexamus Boss Tips and Strategy

You will need to clear 3 packs of Elementals and Enchanted items before Vexamus spawns. A short rp animation will play, and then it will phase in at the center of the room.

Abilities

  • Arcane Orbs spawn all around the circle that should be soaked.
  • Arcane Fissure does a knock back, damage, and spawns multiple swirls underneath all players over a few seconds which will explode momentarily.
  • Arcane Expulsion is a frontal cone magic nuke.
  • Mana Bombs is a DoT that must be healed through on 3 players. They will explode and drop puddles after the debuff expires.

All Roles

  • 5 Arcane Orbs spawn all around the circle and must be soaked by different people. Don’t let them hit Vexamus! It will gain 20 energy and damage your whole party. Each orb soaked does damage and puts a magic-dispellable stacking debuff Oversurge that makes you take 100% more damage per orb soaked. Alternatively, have someone with magic immunity run around and soak all the orbs!
  • Arcane Fissure is cast approximately every 40 seconds at 100 energy if you handled the Arcane Orbs correctly. Every orb that hits the boss will reduce the timer by 8 seconds! You will get knocked back, take damage, and spawn multiple swirls over a few seconds which will explode. Don’t drop the swirls on your group!

Tanks

  • Make sure to aim Vexamus away from your group, Arcane Expulsion is a frontal cone magic nuke and is unavoidable for you.

Healers and DPS

  • Drop your Mana Bombs puddles slightly away from where you want to stand. Try to place them grouped closely if possible! They will disappear after 1 minute, about every 3rd wave.

Healers

  • Arcane Fissure does a burst of group damage, make sure everyone is topped off before it!
  • Manage stacks of Oversurge. Either soak one per person, dispel between soaks, or immunity soak all the Arcane Orbs
  • Make sure you’re topped off or use a defensive when Vexamus reaches 100 energy for Arcane Fissure.
  • Do not stand behind the tank or in the Mana Bombs puddles.
