What types of dungeons are there in World of Warcraft
Players will come across two types of dungeons while playing the game: smaller non-instanced dungeons, called places of interest, and larger instanced dungeons, called world dungeons.

What is a place of interest
There are more than a hundred places of interest throughout the world of Azeroth (and even more in Outland), ranging in size from small to quite large. Places of interest include tombs, haunted mines, ice caves, and sunken ships to name a few. The transition into and out of these places is seamless, and you'll be able to run into other players anywhere within them.

What is a world dungeon
World dungeons, which are grander in scale than places of interest, are designed for more epic encounters. They come in both five-person and raid varieties. The raid dungeons are designed for raids of specific sizes - 10, 15, 20, 25, or 40 players. Some examples of world dungeons in Azeroth include Stratholme, Blackwing Lair, Blackrock Spire, Dire Maul, and Zul'Gurub.

Are the world dungeons instanced
Yes. Each time a group enters a world dungeon's entrance portal, an instance of that area is created just for that group. Two groups that enter the instance portal at the same time will each get their own copy, or instance, of the dungeon. This allows you and a group of friends to have a more personal experience - exploring, adventuring, or completing quests in your own private dungeon.

What is a raid dungeon
Raid dungeons are designed to provide the greatest challenges - and greatest rewards - attainable in the game from a PvE standpoint. The raid dungeons of World of Warcraft will require the entire raid to use precise teamwork in order to defeat the challenges within. The bosses within raid dungeons are the most fearsome in the game, such as the dragons Onyxia and Nefarian, as well as famous characters from World of Warcraft lore. Each raid dungeon is designed for a specific raid size. Karazhan, one of the new raid dungeons in The Burning Crusade, is designed for ten level 70 players. Molten Core, one of the first raids introduced to the game, is designed for forty level 60 players.

What rewards are there in world dungeons
Outside of the challenging battles, fearsome bosses, interesting lore, and variety of colorful settings in world dungeons, they are also home to many powerful rewards. The many world dungeons of World of Warcraft have much to offer every player - take advantage of them and have fun!

If a group of people enter an instanced dungeon, how can a new player join that group or enter their dungeon
The group leader can add a new player to the group without actually being near that player by using the /invite command. Once the new player is added, he or she can enter the same instance that the rest of the group is in.

Are there dungeons for all level ranges and not just for maximum-level players
Yes. The game features a wide range of content suitable for all levels and types of players, allowing both casual and hardcore gamers to enjoy their gameplay experience.

What are Heroic difficulty dungeons
Introduced in The Burning Crusade, Heroic-level instances are alternate versions of the new five-person instances that have been considerably increased in difficulty, and have their own set of more powerful rewards. Access to Heroic difficulty requires each group member to have Honored reputation level with the dungeon's associated faction in order to purchase the appropriate key. Once everyone in a five-person group has the key to unlock Heroic difficulty for an instance, the group leader simply has to set that instance to Heroic in the group leader menu.
