WOW Ragefire Chasm Guide

Cheap WoW Classic Gold

Yet again, we have another new guide for you! Ragefire Chasm is the instance that gets many started in the dungeons of Azeroth.

For most players leveling up Horde characters, Ragefire Chasm is the first instance encountered. It is meant for characters anywhere from levels 12 through 16, as a kind of introduction to the instance system in World of Warcraft. As a "training" instance, it is neither particularly long nor particularly difficult, and contains no equipment good enough to warrant mention (unlike the other low level instances, Deadmines and Wailing Caverns). Though it does contain elite monsters-monsters more powerful than their mere level suggests-it can be reliably done by any combination of classes.

The visionary Warchief Thrall led his people across the seas to Kalimdor, the Land of Eternal Starlight, at the behest of the prophet Medivh. There, the Orc clans and their Darkspear Troll allies would join forces with the Tauren tribes under Cairne Bloodhoof to form the backbone of the new Horde. After the defeat of Archimonde at the World Tree, Thrall led the Horde to found a new place that they could call home. While the Tauren decided to settle in the lush grasslands of Mulgore, the Orcs and Trolls made their home in the land they came to call Durotar, after the father of the young Warchief.

The Orcs constructed a city in the canyons to the north of Durotar¡ but far beneath the warrior-city of Orgrimmar lay a network of fiery caves that had not been explored. A clan of Troggs decided to make it their new home, but they were not the only ones to set up shop in the burning chasm. A splinter group of the nefarious Shadow Council, calling itself the Searing Blade, thought to gather their forces there¡ªright under the nose of the Warchief. They believed Thrall too na ve to see them¡ªuntil it would be too late.

Yet perhaps they were not giving the young Warchief the credit he so rightfully deserved¡

For most players leveling up Horde characters, Ragefire Chasm is the first instance encountered. It is meant for characters anywhere from levels 12 through 16, as a kind of introduction to the instance system in World of Warcraft. As a ¡°training¡± instance, it is neither particularly long nor particularly difficult, and contains no equipment good enough to warrant mention (unlike the other low level instances, Deadmines and Wailing Caverns). Though it does contain elite monsters¡ªmonsters more powerful than their mere level suggests¡ªit can be reliably done by any combination of classes. It would be prudent to bring at least one healer, however.

1.) Finding It
Ragefire Chasm is located directly at the bottom of the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar. If you¡¯re unsure how to get to the Cleft, ask a guard for the location of a Rogue or Warlock trainer. Once in the Cleft, it¡¯s very hard to miss the big swirling portal.

Due to its location, I don¡¯t recommend Alliance try this instance¡ªwith the exception of high-level Alliance on servers seeking to open the Scarab Gate for Ahn¡¯Qiraj. In that case, it¡¯s a perfect place to farm Linen Cloth¡ but it might take you a few corpse runs to get there.

2.) Quests
There are several quests that can be completed in Ragefire Chasm, with at least one in each of the three capital cities.

Searching for the Lost Satchel (16)
¡°The troggs are not the only thing that interested Magatha in Ragefire Chasm. She has heard word that one of her servants, a Maur Grimtotem, found something peculiar while in the Chasm, but he never made it out to show her what. She'd like Maur's body found--if it still exists--and any signs of what he found while attempting to speak to the troggs.

Return to Magatha any items of interest, and I'm sure she would be very generous in her reward.

Again, seek the Chasm in the darkest areas of Orgrimmar.¡±

Objective: Search Ragefire Chasm for Maur Grimtotem's corpse and search it for any items of interest.

This quest, like the rest of the Ragefire quests, is fairly simple. At the first fork in the road down by the group of Troggs, turn right and take the low path rather than the high path. Follow it to the end, and there will be a small room to your left. Kill the named enemy in the room, and inspect the Tauren corpse to complete the quest (and obtain the followup quest to return to Rahauro).

Returning the Lost Satchel (16)
¡°You find a satchel under the body of the tauren. It is still gripped tightly in his arms as though he was trying to protect it while being attacked by the troggs.

Removing the satchel from his vice-like grip, you stow it with your own equipment and prepare to make your way out of the tunnels and back to Rahauro in Thunder Bluff.¡±

Objective: Take the Grimtotem Satchel to Rahauro in Thunder Bluff.
Rahauro is on the Elder Rise. Just look for the yellow dot on your minimap. You¡¯ll have a choice between two rewards: Featherbead Bracers and Savannah Bracers.

Testing an Enemy¡¯s Strength (15)
¡°Beneath the city of Orgrimmar, stout creatures known as troggs started coming to the surface from deep below the lava filled tunnels. In her ever-benevolence, Magatha sought to make peace with the creatures, but they turned on her diplomats, killing them. She will not allow such treatment of the tauren people and now consider the creatures a threat to all of the Horde.

She asks that you put an end to this trogg threat before it overwhelms the Horde from below. Find Ragefire Chasm and destroy them all.¡±

Objective: Search Orgrimmar for Ragefire Chasm, then kill 8 Ragefire Troggs and 8 Ragefire Shaman before returning to Rahauro in Thunder Bluff.

The Troggs are in the first section of the instance past the first few monsters. There is a main pack in the middle of the big ¡°road,¡± but many more along the paths to the right (low branch, not high branch) and the left. If you clear out all the Troggs in the instance, you should be able to finish this quest easily.

The Power To Destroy¡ (16)
¡°Many denizens of the Legion bestow gifts on their followers as you may well know. Some of these gifts the Dark Lady feels would be better off in her hands than in the hands of those with... lesser vision.

A sect of the Shadow Council hidden in caverns below Orgrimmar known as the Searing Blade are a prime example. The Lady tells me that members of the Searing Blade have come into the possession of two powerful spell books--she would like to "borrow" these books from them. You will get them for her.¡±

Objective: Bring the books Spells of Shadow and Incantations from the Nether to Varimathras in Undercity.

This quest isn¡¯t hard, so much as it is annoying. Any of the Searing Blade mobs (in the large cavern with the crisscrossing lava bridges) has a chance to drop the books, so you¡¯ll just have to keep killing them until they both drop. For rewards, you have your choice of: Ghastly Trousers, Dredgemire Leggings, or Gargoyle Leggings.

(Chain) Slaying the Beast (16)
¡°The primary task set upon me by our great Warchief is to root out the creatures responsible for infesting our lord's great city with demonic influence. The Burning Blade is one threat, but there are others; the Searing Blade for instance, who make their home in Ragefire Chasm, secretly attempting to subvert innocent members of the Horde.

If they are to be stopped, then their leader must be slain--a Felguard named Taragaman the Hungerer.

Kill him, and his heart will appease Thrall, of this I'm sure.¡±

Objective: Enter Ragefire Chasm and slay Taragaman the Hungerer, then bring his heart back to Neeru Fireblade in Orgrimmar.

This quest comes after finishing the quest Burning Shadows. To get Burning Shadows, head to Skull Rock, east of Orgrimmar. Kill Gazz¡¯uz, and loot the Eye of Burning Shadow from him. The Eye will then start the quest, which is a simple delivery quest to Neeru Fireblade in the Cleft of Shadows. After that, talk to Neeru to get this quest.

Taragaman is a large Felguard in the middle of the lava cavern in RFC. Make sure that no patrols are coming near when you engage him. He hits decently hard for his level, so keep up the healing on your tank and try not to pull aggro if you wear cloth or leather. Kill him, and loot the heart.

(Chain)Hidden Enemies (16)
¡°Hmm, leaders of the Searing Blade... this concerns me most. If they are the ones of value to Neeru, then those are who we must target first. This satyr... Bazzalan, and the other Neeru mentioned--what was he, a warlock --must be slain.

Return to the Cleft of Shadow and enter Ragefire Chasm, . Find these two leaders of the Searing Blade, and kill them. But be careful not to let Neeru know it was you who did this. You must retain your identity as one of his brothers in arms.¡±

Objective: Kill Bazzalan and Jergosh the Invoker before returning to Thrall in Orgrimmar.

The quest chain is started by talking to Thrall himself (located in the Valley of Wisdom). He sends you on a mission to Skull Rock, east of Orgrimmar, to get a Lieutenant¡¯s Insignia of the Searing Blade. It drops randomly from any of the orcs there, so just keep killing until you get it. While you¡¯re there, you might as well kill Gazz¡¯uz to get Burning Shadows (see above). Return to Thrall, who will then send you to speak with Neeru Fireblade in the Cleft of Shadows. Talk with Neeru and scroll through dialogue options, then return to Thrall to complete the quest. He¡¯ll then give you the quest listed above.

Enter Ragefire Chasm, go straight. Kill the troggs and turn right. Head to the top path, kill all the monsters in your path. You¡¯ll go through a room filled with stone elementals before entering a giant lava cavern (where the mobs will drop the books for ¡°The Power to Destroy¡¡±). Fight your way to the end of the cavern, where there will be two paths. The more obvious path leads to a circular room, where you can find Jergosh the Invoker, the Orcish Warlock. Kill him and his bodyguards.

There is a second path to the side of the one leading to Jergosh, though it is rather difficult to initially see (as it¡¯s concealed in shadows). Up that path, you¡¯ll find the satyr Bazzalan. Kill him to complete the objective.

Return to Thrall, and run back and forth between Neeru and Thrall one more time to finally complete the chain. You have your choice of weapons:

Choose one of the Kris, Staff, Axe, or Hammer of Orgrimmar.
3.) Bosses and Loot
Unlike the next low-level Horde instance, Wailing Caverns¡ªand the Alliance counterpart Deadmines¡ªRagefire Chasm has no important loot to speak of. The vast majority of equipment gained in the zone will be in the form of Bind on Equip green drops, and will likely be replaced within the next 5 to 10 levels anyway. The plethora of low-level BoE greens means that RFC is a fantastic place to start leveling Enchanting, and the bountiful linen drops aid in leveling Tailoring and First Aid.

That being said, the bosses can drop some decent gear for the level, regardless of whether or not you¡¯ll find something better within a few days.

Oggleflint ¨C Not much of a boss to speak of. Cleaves, doesn¡¯t drop any BoP gear, may not even drop any green gear at all.

Taragaman the Hungerer ¨C Melees very hard for his level and does a low-powered Fire AoE. Keep the tank up and burn him down. He can drop Crystalline Cuffs, Subterranean Cape, or Cursed Felblade.

Jergosh the Invoker ¨C Casts Immolate, which could theoretically be dispelled if the Priest in your group is level 18 or higher (though why they¡¯d be running RFC eludes me). Also casts Curse of Weakness, but that¡¯s more of an annoyance than anything else. Has two adds which can be sapped or polymorphed or simply burned down. Jergosh can drop Robe of Evocation, which is actually quite nice for the level. He can also drop Cavedweller Bracers and Chanting Blade.

Bazzalan ¨C Another melee boss, will frequently use Sinister Strike for slightly more melee damage. Will cast Poison on people, which lasts 30 seconds and ticks every 3 seconds for 10 Nature damage. Like Oggleflint, drops nothing worth mentioning, and perhaps not even a BoE green.

4.) Walkthrough
Enter the instance. In the first stretch, all you¡¯ll have to deal with are snakes called Earthborers, who use an ability known as Earthborer Acid, a stackable debuff that reduces armor by slightly over 100. You¡¯ll also encounter Molten Elementals, rock elementals that melee slightly harder than the Earthborers and have a Fire Shield that does fire damage to anyone within melee range, though its 13 damage is fairly insignificant.

After clearing several groups of those, run down the long ramp. Here you¡¯ll encounter the Ragefire troggs. They¡¯re in tight groups and, like most humanoid mobs, will aggro if anyone near them is attacked. Keep that in mind, especially if you¡¯re in a lower-level party, or one without a dedicated healer. There are two sorts of troggs: Ragefire Troggs and Ragefire Shaman. The Ragefire Troggs are simply melee fighters, and will occasionally use Strike, which is nothing but a more powerful melee attack. Ragefire Shamans are weaker versions of the Troggs who will occasionally cast Lightning Bolt for some Nature damage.

Keep moving down. Clear the big pack of Troggs by pulling one group at a time, and then take the fork to your right. Keep to the right (low) path. Continue onward, dealing with groups of Troggs and Shamans. When you reach the top of the ramp, there will be a little cave to your left. Inside the cave you¡¯ll find Oggleflint, the Ragefire Chieftain, and some of his bodyguards.

Oggleflint melees harder than the Troggs do, and will cast Cleave, so any lower-level melee should make sure to be behind him. In this cave, you can find the body of Maur Grimtotem for the Missing Satchel quest.

If members of your party still need to kill troggs for Testing an Enemy¡¯s Strength, there¡¯s another branch chock-full of them. You have two options of getting there: jumping down from where you are now, or running around the long way. Obviously, the long way is safer, since you¡¯ll lose health from the jump and will immediately be put in combat against two or three troggs. Make sure whatever healer you have is ready to start healing the fall damage as soon as you land. Hunters and warlocks should dismiss any pets they have out before jumping, else the party might find itself in slightly over its head as the pets return to their masters and drag a boatload of troggs along with them.

Return back to the main area (where the path forked in the first place) and then take the left branch of the right path, going up. Here, you¡¯ll find some more Earthborers to deal with, and will then enter a cavern full of Molten Elementals. Crush them into gravel and move on.

Now, you¡¯ll find yourself in a big lava cavern, with little bridges and platforms of rock crossing through the entire area. This is the Searing Blade headquarters, and you¡¯ll encounter some new enemies here. Searing Blade Cultists will melee and cast Curse of Agony, which is identical to the Warlock spell. Searing Blade Enforcers (which can be identified easily by the shields they carry) will melee and occasionally cast shield slam, which is a 1-second stun. Searing Blade Warlocks will cast Shadow Bolt and Curse of Agony, and have non-elite Voidwalker Minions as companions. Any of the three types of cultist has a chance to drop the books needed for Varimathras¡¯ quest The Power to Destroy¡

As a party of appropriate level for the instance, be wary in this area. There are orc cultists patrolling through the area, and an improper pull can aggro all the enemies on one platform. Pick a side, clear the platform, and then get ready to fight Taragaman the Hungerer. Make sure that none of the orc patrols will interrupt you mid-fight and engage.

Taragaman hits harder than anything you¡¯ve encountered thus far in the zone, so keep heals on your tank. He¡¯ll also do a low-damage AoE Fire attack, but his real damage is in his melee strength. He¡¯ll go down fairly easily, though, and you can then take his heart for Neeru.

Keep clearing orcs, especially if you haven¡¯t gotten the books yet. Move towards the southwest side of the cavern (on your minimap). Move into the big plateau area and you should see Jergosh the Invoker right there on the other side.

Jergosh has two bodyguards, you can kill them before killing the warlock himself. Jergosh isn¡¯t particularly difficult, though he will cast Curse of Weakness and Immolate. After Jergosh is eating dirt, head back to the entrance to the lava cavern itself. There¡¯s a path leading up that may be rather hard to see on darker monitors, since it¡¯s almost completely in shadow.

Go up that ramp, kill more of the Searing Blade¡ªnothing you haven¡¯t seen before¡ªand face off with the satyr, Bazzalan. Bazzalan melees slightly weaker than Taragaman and will use Sinister Strike. He¡¯ll also put a 30 second duration poison on people that ticks every 3 seconds for 10 nature damage, but it¡¯s nothing too serious. Kill him, finish up any remaining quests, and you¡¯re done!

Of course, the dungeon is significantly easier if you have a higher-level friend¡
