Blood Tempered Ranseur Quest Chain

The introduction of the Burning Crusade Expansion Pack into World of Warcraft and Blood Elf Paladins brought with them a new quest for these paladins. Similar to the Verigan's Fist quest, level 20 Blood Elf Paladins will receive a quest for a nice blue polearm, the Blood Tempered Ranseur.

Blood Tempered Ranseur
Polearm
45-69 damage 2.90 speed
(19.7 dps)
+6 Strength
+9 Stamina
+6 Intelligence

The first part of this quest is obtained from Knight-Lord Bloodvalor who is near the paladin trainers in the northeast corner of Silvermoon, the same person who gave the quest for the paladin spell Redemption (from the quest, The First Trial). Bloodvalor commends you on your progress towards becoming a Blood Knight, and sends you on The Second Trial. He asks you to find and speak with Master Bloodmourn for the next step in the Second Trial.

The Second Trial
Bloodmourn is located north of Silvermoon City. To find him, follow the path through the ruins of Silvermoon west of Silvermoon City and take the east fork of the path before the bridge to Sunstrider Isle. Keep following the path east and you will find Bloodmourn standing in front of a pavilion. Speak to him to gain the next part of the quest.

Defeat the Four Bloodknight Champions
After speaking to Master Bloodmourn, he gives you the next part of the quest chain. He asks you to enter the pavilion behind him and activate the summoning crystal to call forth four Bloodknight Champions and defeat them in single combat. Enter the pavilion and in the middle you will see a floating crystal. Right click on it to activate it and it will disappear. The four Blood Knight champions will then enter the pavilion and surround you. After suitable taunting, Bloodmourn will instruct one of the champions to attack you. The champions will attack one at a time and each one is fairly easy to defeat, but there is no time to rest in between each attack, and each champion gets progressively more difficult than the one preceding. However, these are fairly easy fights at level 20 and they can be completed with little difficulty if you conserve mana for use throughout the fight.

Return to Master Bloodmourn after defeating the four Champions, and he will give you a quest to return to Knight-Lord Bloodvalor.

Return to Silvermoon
This leg of the quest chain is easy: simply return to Bloodvalor after receiving the quest from Bloodmourn. He will congratulate you on your progress again, and give you the next step in the chain, as well as the spell "Sense Undead".

Path of the Adept
After speaking to Knight-Lord Bloodvalor, he will give you the next part of the chain, and the step that will take the longest and have you traveling all over the world. Bloodvalor tells you that in order to become fully inducted into the Blood Knights you will have to complete several tasks and bring him four objects: a Corrupt Kor Gem, a Crate of Blood Forged Ingots, the Blood of the Wrathful, and a Blood Knight Insignia. He explains that the first three items are to create a powerful weapon worthy of a Blood Knight, and the Insignia is necessary for full initiation to the Blood Knights. He also gives you a list telling you where each may be found. You can gather these items in any order, so I'll go over the method to obtain them in the order that I did them:

Blood Knight Insignia
Bloodmourn's note explains that when the Blood Knights were first formed, a set number of Insignia were created to distinguish the Blood Knights from the rest of the population, and as part of an arrangement, no new Insignia may be made. He then tells you that one of the Blood Knight initiates lead an unsuccessful attack on Deatholme on the border of the Ghostlands and the Plaguelands. He wants you to find the corpse of this Blood Knight and retrieve the Insignia from it. Head down south through the Ghostlands to Deatholme (you should have had some quests there earlier) and bear to the right towards a cauldron. There will probably be some 16-19 undead mobs that you will encounter, but they shouldn't be a problem to dispatch. When you reach the cauldron, there will be a blood elf corpse on the ground. Walk up to it and right click it (can be confusing because the mouse will turn into a speech bubble instead of the gear), and you will search the body and find an insignia.

Blood of the Wrathful
In Bloodvalor's note, he tells you of a powerful item known as the Blood of the Wrathful that is needed in the forging of you weapon. He tells you that this item is in possession of a secret cult of demon worshippers located in Ragefire Chasm in the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar and he tells you to retrieve it from one of the leaders, Jergosh the Invoker. Getting to Orgrimmar from Silvermoon is fairly simple. Head to the Undercity Translocation Orb located in the Spire in the Northwest Corner of Silvermoon and teleport to the Undercity. From there grab the zeppelin outside the city headed to Orgrimmar. Ragefire chasm is a level 13-18 instance, so your best bet to complete this part of the quest is to try and find a group headed into the instance. I did this last night with a group of three other level 20-23 paladins that were on the same leg of the quest, and it wasn't too difficult. Fight your way back through the Earth Borers and elementals, the Troggs and Searing Blade Cultists - you can avoid Taragaman the Hungerer if you want by staying to the right or take him out if you have the quest still - and make your way back to Jergosh the Invoker. In the back left corner, you will see an orb on a pedestal - this is what you are after. The quest says that it drops from Jergosh, but it doesn't; you can get what you need for this part without even fighting Jergosh if you want. We killed him anyway though before the fight so we would have plenty of room. Walk up to the orb and right-click on it. This will spawn a demon that will yell that someone has attempted to steal the Blood of the Wrathful and come charging in at you. This is a fairly simple fight. The demon is not too high level and with a group of four paladins, we dispatched him pretty quickly. Loot his body for the Blood that you are looking for.

Corrupted Kor Gem
The next part of the quest has you traveling to Blackfathom Deeps, on the Zoram Strand on the northern coast of Ashenvale forest. The trip here can be fairly long and somewhat perilous if you stray off the path through the forest or head to close to Astranaar, especially on a PvP server as there could be several higher level Alliance questing in Ashenvale. After making sure you have the flight path for Orgrimmar (don't forget this... it's a long run back if your hearthstone is on cooldown) head through the secondary western exit to the Barrens. Make your way west to the road, then follow the road north to Ashenvale. I would recommend making a stop at Splintertree Post to get the flight path there as well because you will probably need it later. As you follow the road north from the Barrens, veer a little to the east at the T-junction and you will find Splintertree. Head back to the road and follow it to the west/northwest as best you can, making sure to give Astranaar a wide berth. You'll know when you get close if you come to a lake. Make sure to go wide around it without aggroing too many mobs. Pick up the road on the other side and continue to follow it. You should see a path that branches off on the left as you get near Maestra's Post: this is what you are looking for. Follow the path to the beach and head south to Zoram'gar Outpost to grab the FP there. Then head back up north along the shore carefully - there are many Naga along the beach, but they're only level 18-19 so they shouldn't give you any problems - until you come to Blackfathom Deeps. Jump down into the temple and swin underwater towards the path. The Corrupted Kor Gem can drop from any Naga caster outside the instance so you don't have to go inside. The casters are around level 18-19 elites though, so it can be difficult to solo. I tried it by myself and with some careful pulling - there are some invisible elite Satyr around too - I was able to get mostly single pulls and got the Gem on the third or fourth Naga that I killed. This part can be soloed, but it's would be much easier to do with a friend or two. After finding the gem head back to Zoram'gar, fly to Orgrimmar and jump back on the Zeppelin for the Undercity.

Crate of Blood Ingots
The last step of the quest has you traveling to Shadowfang Keep in Silverpine forest. Bloodvalor's note tells of a man imprisoned there by the name of Lauden Stilwell. He says that Stilwell was the last known person to have possession of the Ingots and that you are to obtain them from him "by any means necessary." Make your way southwest along the road outside the Undercity (Make sure you have the Undercity Flight Path!) towards Silverpine forest. Continue south until you see the branch off the road on your right heading towards Pyrewood village. Take the right fork on the path and follow it up to Shadowfang Keep. Since you have to enter the instance, and the mobs in here are the highest you have faced on this quest, your best option is to at least have a friend or two along with you. A full group would be better, especially if you are attempting this quest at level 20, but since you aren't going in too far, you can do it with at least 2 others. I did it with two other Paladins (I was 21, they were 23 and 24) and a hunter that was around level 30. Make your way through the right doorway and clear the instance as normal. Make your way up the stairs towards the jail cells and Rethilgore. After taking out Rethilgore and his keepers, you will see a Stilwell in the third cell. Open it up and talk to him. As you ask him about the Ingots, he will play dumb. Threaten him and he will reveal that they are in the stables across the Keep's courtyard. Speak to the Deathstalker in the first cell to get him to open the door to the courtyard. Slowly work your way across the courtyard - if you stay to the left you don't have to clear it completely - and enter the stables. There is one last worgen inside the stables to take out, but be careful of using any AoE as you can aggro the Felsteeds in the stables. Along the right wall is the crate you are looking for - right click on it to retrieve the Blood Ingots.

Congratulations, you have gathered all four objects needed for this quest! From here you can either hearth back to Silvermoon (if you happen to be bound there) or head back to the Sepulcher to the north of Shadowfang, fly to the Undercity, and use the translocation orb to teleport back to Silvermoon - this can be found as you are exiting the Undercity. Head across the courtyard towards the gate and go up the stairs on your left as you are looking out the gate. Then return to Knight-Lord Bloodvalor.

After returning to Bloodvalor and giving him the objects from the quest, he welcomes you into the ranks of the Blood Knights, and tells you to speak to the blacksmith outside to commission a weapon worthy of your new status as a Blood Knight. Run outside and speak to the blacksmith across the courtyard. He will accept the note from Bloodvalor and after a few second you can speak to him again for your new Blood Tempered Ranseur!
