The Maelstrom is the gigantic rift that was created when the Well of Eternity collapsed into itself during the Great Sundering.
Maelstrom Weapon is a passive shaman ability learned at level 44 for those with the Enhancement specialization. Each stack reduces the cast time of the next Nature spell with a cast time of less than 10 seconds; fully stacked, those spells become instant cast.
Maelstrom Weapon is a passive level 52 Enhancement shaman ability.
The chance to gain a charge when attacking is dependent on weapon speed, using the PPM mechanic. In effect, this means that slower weapons will have a slightly higher chance to trigger Maelstrom Weapon due to instant attacks.[Dual wielding] will greatly increase the rate at which charges are generated, although it won't be double, due to the miss penalty inherent in dual wielding. When Dual wielding, the PPM rate is approximately 25 PPM
The Maelstrom is a large storm in the center of the world map, where it sits betweenKalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. Ship and zeppelin routes go out of their way to avoid the Maelstrom, for fairly obvious reasons. You must pass through the Maelstrom to get toDeepholm via a quest given from the Earthen Ring in your faction's home city.
In World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Deathwing re-enters Azeroth from Deepholm via the Maelstrom. The Maelstrom is asanctuary, where PvP combat is disabled. The zone can be reached through the breadcrumb quests leading to Deepholm from Stormwind and Orgrimmar. Thrall and Aggra are also present here (now affiliated with the Earthen Ring). Thrall is trying to maintain the rift, while Aggra provides transportation down into Deepholm.
